Elia is situated at the very Western end of Crete. The area is dominated by vegetable farming, ancient Olive plantations and small villages. Watch out for the sheep and goats that like to cross the streets! Still tourists find anything they need and wish for: restaurants that offer local specialties, mountains for tramping and great beaches. The large, golden beach of Falasarna and the many smaller bays next to it are perfect for swimming.
In the closest village Platanos a supermarket and a cash machine are available. In Kissamos/Kastelli, which is about a fifteen minutes drive away, pharmacies and doctors offer their service – most of the staff speaks English. The small town is also nice for souvenir shopping or a visit to the many cafés and bars. Perfect for a day trip are the bays of Balos and Elafonisi. Both beaches are famous for their beauty and amazingly clear water.
